These root riot cubes have been designed for use with cuttings and seeds and consistently are the highest performing media for these. They are composed from organic material and have a spongy texture which retains the perfect ratio or air and water which gives explosive root growth. The cubes are specially inoculated with micro nutrients and biologically active ingredients to nourish young plants, and to aid root development. Keep everything tidy and in order by just seeding up and using this tray in your propagator. The ridged base of the tray allows water to drain away and allowing the sponges to retain the correct amount of moisture.
Once your plantlets are ready to transplant, they can easily be removed from the tray with large push through holes on the base. This will minimise any damage.
Starting seeds can sometimes be a stressful adventure. It’s a constant balance between keeping them wet enough to promote germination without having them so wet they dampen off and die. Rockwool cubes are popular for germinating seeds in because of their excellent moisture retention — they are great at helping to keep seeds or seedlings from drying out but don’t let them sit in a waterlogged environment.
Moisture is the critical factor in seed germination. Water enters the seed through the seed coat or tiny opening called a micropyle. The presence of water will activate the enzymatic reactions within the seed that begin germination.
Cloning New Plants
Propagating new plants is the process of taking an existing plant part (usually a leaf or stem cutting) and growing it into a whole new plant. This method results in an identical clone of the original and is cheaper than purchasing seeds and starting from scratch.
Maintaining a high humidity around the cutting is critical for successful propagation. Plants need to keep from drying out; without enough moisture the plant will go into self-defense mode and will stop trying to develop new roots.
Growing new plants through propagation techniques needs to happen in a sterile environment, free of bacteria or fungus. Rockwool cubes are completely inert because of the heating process they undergo during manufacturing. This ensures they are sterile and free of any harmful microorganisms that could hinder propagation.
Propagation Made Easy
If you are unfamiliar with the propagation of plants, then the growing of a plant from seed or cutting may seem a daunting prospect. However, the Root Riot propagation range makes growing your plants easy and enjoyable. Our specially manufactured Root riot Natural Rooting Sponges create the ideal micro-climate for seeds and cuttings meaning you will have higher success rates.
Simply dampen the sponges, place your seeds in the pre-drilled holes, clip the propagator lid on top of the filled tray insert, and place somewhere with plenty of natural light.
Root riot Natural Rooting Sponges are a breakthrough in organic technology. They are made from a mixture of peat and bark bonded together with plant-derived biodegradable polymers that allow the plug to biodegrade.
The Root Riot Natural Rooting Sponges are specially designed to improve cutting strike rate and encourage faster germination. Each Root Riot Natural Rooting Sponge has two holes – Hole 1 is the perfect depth for most seeds, designed to a specific width to create an ideal humid micro-climate around the seed resulting in faster seed germination. Hole 2 is perfect for gripping cuttings and will hold the cutting firmly in place.
“Arrived quickly, contents of the bag were still moist and ready to use right away. They do tend to dry out fairly quickly when the temps start to really climb but that’s to he expected. So far so good as almost every seed I sowed in one of these has germinated.”
“Sometimes it’s tricky to get your seed placed just right. The pre punched hole in the sponge can be real wide and deep or narrow and shallow. Sometimes the seed pushes itself out the top of the sponge rather then the root digging in. Have to keep an eye on things and make adjustments as needed. But overall it’s handy, neat and tidy. Works better on clones rather than seed.”
“Good Price for a good product. Shipping was great as well.”
