Vitalink clay pebbles are manufactured from high-quality clay and have been tumbled to remove any sharp edges. These pebbles are perfect for most hydroponic systems – IWS, Wilma, Aquafarm, etc., and will also improve drainage and aeration levels in more traditional mediums like soil and coco.
What you do with these clay pebbles will depend on the system you intend to use them with. Just make sure that you wash them first to remove any traces of clay dust, which, if left untreated, may cause blockages in dripper lines, etc..
Conversions: 1 Teaspoon = 5mL | 1 Tablespoon = 15 mL | 1 Ounce = 30mL | 1 Cup = 240 mL
The VitaLink Clay Pebbles are 8-20mm clay pellets, perfect for growing hydroponically. The lower bulk density of the clay pellets means they are lighter, giving better water retention and aeration.
The tumbled surface ensures that sharp edges are non-existent, making your plants and delicate roots safe from being damaged which in effect could make them vulnerable to disease.
The pellets are extremely stable in pH and EC and will help to avoid excess acidity build up. As well as this, their strong structural reliability means they are less likely to break. Broken clay pellets can, of course, block dripper systems, and we don’t want that!
VitaLink Clay Pebbles are ideal for flood and drain systems, as well as the IWS and Wilma systems. The pebbles can drain freely without holding excess water, providing good oxygen levels around the roots. This oxygen exchange is essential in keeping the roots healthy and growing.
Used in an array of hydroponic systems, clay pebbles have a rough porous texture and are capable of holding onto quite a lot of water. At the same time, because of the air gaps in the substrate, drainage is almost free-flowing, which is why it’s such a popular choice for recirculating systems, helping to reduce issues caused by waterlogging. These gaps also help to oxygenate the rootzone, which in turn generates huge gains in terms of plant growth and development.
“Ordered these because I’d been using gravel clippings at the bottom & on top of my pots. not only is it really annoying if you need to change something& disturb the gravel, leaving a mess but also it’s heavy & it hurts my hands. These were the only thing I could find on prime that didn’t cost the earth. I don’t know why I have never used them before, I love them. I picked the bag up half expecting it to be heavy & nearly knocked myself out. They are so light. They are smooth & don’t hurt your fingers & they are also really easy to use-if you need to move them, you can without causing a mess. No faffing about cleaning & draining 15 times to get them ready. They made my usual planting chaos much easier & less of a work out. I’m sold on these bad boys. The only point I’d make is if you’re using in the top & bottom of pots, don’t just buy 1 bag, the bag isn’t huge &they don’t stretch as far as you’d imagine. (I added some upturned plants pots to my bigger pots with a few pebbles so it saves onboth pebbles & compost)”
“I used to buy a product called hortag which seems to have disappeared but it seems to me that this is pretty much the same, although the clay pebbles are fractionally bigger. It is invaluable to keep a layer of these pebbles in big trays on the greenhouse shelf, or anywhere else, and sit your pots on top: water the trays and the pebbles retain the moisture for the plants to draw on without sitting in a puddle. Also use them in individual containers, cache-pots and similar, for a plant pot to sit on. They should last for ages and ages – rinse them when you first get them to wash off the clay dust and over time a bit more clay dust will accumulate underneath but you can easily wash it out. Highly recommended.”
“I usually buy small stones from my garden centre to put at the bottom of planters for drainage.
But I needed some in a hurry and ordered these clay pebbles.
Wow, they are brilliant.
They were delivered the next day.
They are a perfect size and don’t clog the holes at the bottom of the planter.“
