The LUMii Sunblaster Dual Spectrum 1000w HPS offers exceptionally high output. This, together with the raised spectral discharge in the reds and blues and also a long lamp life, and you have the perfect plant grow light. Tube inflated crystal glass offers consistent thickness allowing more even light output and more usable light for your plants. It has 24,000 life hours and colour temperature of 2000K. The spectral output will alter in a HPS lamp as it ages so we recommend changing your lamp every 9-12 months if you want to keep your growing conditions at an optimum level. All sizes of the Lumii Sunblaster lamps have an E40 base fitting. We recommend using the Lumii Sunblaster lamps with all the Lumii ballast range as they are designed to be optimised with these mix spectral high output lamps.

Light is the most important environmental factor to consider, regardless of where you are growing. Depending on where you live and where you want to garden, the sun does not need to be the only source of light you consider. With the right grow light, you can grow literally any plant, anywhere and at any time, meaning gardening does not have to be a summer time only thing. What is HID lighting?
High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting replaces the filament of a light bulb with a capsule of gas. The light emanates from an arc discharge between two closely spaced electrodes. This discharge is hermetically sealed inside a small quartz glass tubular capsule. HID lights require a ballast, which carefully regulates the voltage supplied to the capsule of gas.
The following types of HID are commonly used:
Metal Halide (MH): Produces light predominantly blue in colour. This is ideal for strong vegetative growth (e.g. larger leaves, thicker stems) and a shorter, dense plant which will utilize light more efficiently.
High Pressure Sodium (HPS): Produces more red light. This promotes flower onset and production and is, therefore, more suited to the flowering/fruiting phase.
Unfortunately, MH and HPS lamps each require a different ballast and lamp holder. Therefore, it is common practice to use a HPS lamp for both vegetative and flowering – especially if plants have a very short vegetative phase. However, using HPS throughout can promote tall and spindly growth in many species.
Why is red and blue light important?
Blue light is very important. Without at least some amount of blue light, most plants won’t grow normally. The plant has several different ways it measures blue light, and they each have their own effects. For example, when you see a plant growing towards the light, it’s actually only responding to just the blue light. Without any blue, the plant wouldn’t know where to grow! Blue light also has an effect on how stems and leaves tend to grow. Seedlings and plants given plenty of blue light tend to stay short, with short stems and squat growth. They tend to grow big leaves and spread them out. It’s often recommended for gardeners to use bright white fluorescents or metal halide grow lights during the vegetative stage since the extra levels of blue help keep young plants from growing tall and lanky, and encourages lots of leafy growth.
We can see red light of course, but generally humans can’t see far-red (infrared) light, although we can feel it as heat. Plants, on the other hand, can sense both red and far-red light. Red light is probably the most important type of light for plants. When it comes to photosynthesis, plants are best able to make energy out of red light. In fact, many plants can actually grow even if they only get pure red light, though they won’t grow as big or as healthy as they do under full spectrum light. Every type of grow light, even ones that are rich in blue like metal halides, provide quite a bit of red light. However, when it comes to red and far-red light as far as signals (not photosynthesis), it’s not the amount as much as the ratio of red to far-red that’s important to the plant! For the purposes of the plant and its response to light spectrum, red light is ~660nm and far-red light is ~730nm on the light color spectrum.
