- Can be used in all mediums and grow systems
- Available in 1 litre
Eventually, every growing system will develop fertilizer residue as a natural part of the growing process. This accumulation results in a salt build-up that can block drippers, cause unsightly accumulations on the top of soil or substrate, and will eventually cause your plants’ undue stress and even root damage. With the highly concentrated nutrients available today, and high EC levels running in many systems, the nutrient lockout can also be an invisible limit on your grow; FloraKleen® solves all these problems.
Simply make up your feed-water as usual and then add FloraKleen at a rate of 1 – 3ml per litre (depending on the size and health of your plants). E.g use at 1ml per litre for young cuttings or weak plants. Use at 3ml per litre for large plants in the peak of health.
To use as a pre-harvest flush, add to your system and run for 24 hours before replacing with fresh water fo a few days.
Store in a dark place and protected from frost. if the product comes into contact with the eyes, rinse with water. Keep out of reach of children.
Conversions: 1 Teaspoon = 5mL | 1 Tablespoon = 15 mL | 1 Ounce = 30mL | 1 Cup = 240 mL
When growing hydroponically, you will undoubtedly use various nutrients and supplements throughout the plants’ life. As the root zone absorbs all the essential elements the plant needs, any unused minerals get left behind and over time will build up. This then resides within the grow medium as well as plant cells, influencing growth, flowering and the taste and flavours of fruits at harvest.
Below we’ll look at three reasons why and when plants should be flushed.
1. Removing Unwanted Salt And Residue Build Up To Improve Taste
This is the most common time to use a flush and is carried out around the final week of bloom. Overtime any unused elements will build up leaving unwanted salts and residue, which if not flushed out of the system, can leave fruits with a bitter flavour and a chemical after taste. Flushing revolves this as the buildup will be broken down and any left-over nutrients will be then used by the plant giving it that final push helping to improve the overall flavour and aromas of the crop.
2. Correcting Nutrient Lock Out Or Overfeeding
If you’re experiencing a nutrient deficiency it’s possible there’s a mineral build-up and the roots aren’t absorbing nutrients as they should be, known as nute lockout, or you’ve simply overfed and leaf tips are looking yellow or even burnt. Flushing gives you a completely fresh start, getting rid of any unwanted build-up in the medium that may be stopping your roots from accessing the nutrients. From there you can then begin to address any possible deficiencies or problems if the symptoms persist.
3. During Transition Periods
When switching from vegetative growth to flowering, it’s not uncommon for some growers to give their plants a quick flush before starting the bloom feeding schedule. This helps remove any leftover elements that plants simply don’t need, for example, if there’s too much nitrogen still in the system which could potentially slow down fruiting and flowering. We must stress, this can be personal preference as some plant species require additional nitrogen during early flower, while others don’t, our advice is to simply read your plants and act in an appropriate way.
Should You Flush With Water Or A Dedicated Product?
In the wild, water does just this job (but over a longer period of time) for plants growing naturally in the ground. In Hydroponics, you want to get the best out of your plants within the shortest amount of time.
Look at it this way. You could quite simply grow plants using just water. They would grow, and they would bear fruits/flowers (after all, it works in nature!) without you needing to add anything. Would the plant be as impressive or give as big a yield without any added nutrients or care? Probably not. That’s why you’re using added nutrients and hydroponics, right?
Supplements and additives help the plant to reach its optimal growth and it’s the same with flushing. The key point is that yes water will work just fine, but a dedicated flushing product will not only work a lot faster, it’ll also give you better results.
How To Flush Your Hydroponics System
There are different ways to flush depending on the system or grow method. For example, if using Deep Water Culture (DWC) or Aeroponic systems, flushing is as simple as swapping the nutrient reservoir with a fresh solution as they do not have a medium that comes into direct contact with the solution.
Soil, rockwool, coco coir and other soilless media can, however, hold onto minerals, which means the flushing technique is more involved. To flush, you must pour a fresh solution through the medium to pull out all the excess minerals that it is holding on to. This can be done with one of many flushing products such as Canna Flush, Plant Magic Plus Flush and Advanced Nutrients Flawless Finish.
But What About Growing Organically?
The simple answer is no, if plants, fruits, and flowers look healthy when growing in organics, flushing isn’t as important as when using synthetic feeding regime. Without delving into the science, the basic principle is that elements are absorbed using micro-organisms from organic matter, which don’t build up like synthetic nutrients, negating any need to flush. That said, when growing organically, nutrients can be used right up to harvest, however, we always recommend they’re fed just water for the final week.
If you want to improve the taste and aromas of your harvest, then you must flush in the final week, whether using a dedicated product or even just water, otherwise all that hard work over the previous few months will be wasted, as yes, you’ll have a crop, but will be impaired by a bitter or chemical after taste. There really is no reason not to flush!
“Seems to do what it says on the tin. My drippers started to spray properly again after a day’s running ONLY THIS through my system.
They weren’t completely clogged but they were not spraying outwards, as they do when clear, but trickling down the dripper itself, likely due to salty deposits left by nutrients. So, this was definitely cleared. I’ve now run FloraKleen twice through my system just as maintenance.
As for clearing/flushing out the plants, root system etc, who can really tell, but my grow looks very nice, almost reaching the endgame, where I will use this again, as an aid in my final flush.”
“Extremely good product”
“Great value for money and a very good product IMO. will be using agin.“
