CX Wilt Guard
- Helps prevent wilting
- Helps plants regulate water loss
- Increased disease resistance
- Combats Pythium
- Works well in stressed plants
- Can be used with other nutrient brands
Wilt Guard helps prevents plant-wilting!! It a contains a specialised type of potassium that ensures your plants can regulate water loss and osmotic pressure. The root zone is always at risk of developing diseases like Pythium that cause root-rot. Healthy plants are able to resist the effects of these diseases. During stressful situations, like flowering, plants are not as able to fight off these diseases. By using Wilt guard at these times, you will keep your plant’s roots disease free so that it can use all its energy in the flowering process. Wilt Guard can be used throughout your plants life cycle but its especially useful if the plant is stressed and especially in the bloom stage.
Add Wilt guard at a rate of 1ml/litre throughout growth and flower stage until flush.
How does Pythium work?
Pythium are, in reality, a group of root fungi, and pertain to a group called Mastigomycotina Oomycetes, and their scientific name is Peronosporales Pythiaceae Pythium. The most common species are Pythium aphanidermatum., Pythium ultimum., and Pythium debaryanum. Pythium can appear from several sources. The water source should be checked for Pythium before it is used to irrigate the plants. Covering ebb and flow irrigation systems can prevent contaminated debris from entering the main water system. It is also important to disinfect any equipment that comes in contact with a nutrient doser or with fertilizers. A Pythium infection should be taken very seriously as it can exponentially decrease the plant’s yield. These fungi can proliferate in seed boxes, indoor growing systems and greenhouses. It affects different parts of the plant and can totally destroy the crop. Two very different types of attacks are commonly found.
- Pre-emergent attack: This occurs before the seed has germinated. During this process the fungus introduces itself through the hydration system of the seed. This can drastically reduce the germination success rate of the seeds and can even result in zero germination. This type of attack depends on the ambient conditions and can vary greatly.
- Post-emergent attack: This type of attack occurs in the stem of the plant resulting in severe thinning near the growing substrate. The proliferation of mycelium occurs in these cells, consuming its contents.
Symptoms of Pythium related diseases include stunted plants, brown or dead root tips, wilting plants during midday, yellow plants, and brown tissue on the outer portion of the root. Once a plant becomes infected with Pythium it can be very difficult to control. While pesticides might be able to get rid of Pythium, prevention is the best cure.
Pythiums cause a large range of diseases on a huge range of plants, from seedling damping off, to root rots of many plants that result in stunted growth due to poor root function. They are soil- and water-borne pathogens favored by wet soil or potting medium conditions. They survive in soil by means of thick-walled spores that germinate and produce sporangia that release swimming zoospores and infect roots. Once roots are infected, new sporangia and zoospores spread the infection to other roots. Management of pythium diseases is best done by prevention because once infections occur, not much works to stop them. Sanitation is required to avoid introducing the pathogen on the plant propagule, used containers, potting medium or in the irrigation water. Sanitizing tools and the work area is essential to avoid introducing the pathogen. Treatment of infected garden soil is difficult, but compost amendment and soil solarization are strategies both worth considering.
With all the changes occurring in growing systems, the modern grower needs a nutrient line that keeps in step with, and can adapt to, these advances. This is where the “Smart Tech” nutrients and additives from CX Horticulture UK shine. Not only are our products based on sound commercial horticultural practices, tested over many, many years of use, but are also in a constant state of being adapted to modern systems. Our “Smart Tech” fertilizers actually adapt their release and activity to plant demand. No more force feeding, resulting in soft plants and out-of-control pest and disease problems; no more starving the plants of vital nutrients. Our products are designed to work synergistically and in harmony with natural processes.
Top tier fertilizers don’t “just happen”. The experience and proven track performance we have in both commercial and hobby growing is the result of many years’ field testing, analyzing plant uptake, and high-end chemical engineering.
